Sheikh Kamal's Room
Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was born on August 5, 1949 in Tungipara, Gopalganj. According to the name of the Turkish’s Father of the nation, Kamal Ataturk, Bangabandhu named him Sheikh Kamal. In 1967, he passed the Secondary school and from Shaheen School and Higher Secondary in 1969 from Dhaka College. He obtained BA (Honors) in 1974 from the Department of Sociology of Dhaka University and passed MA examination from the same department in 1975, but on 15th August 1975, when he was brutally murdered along with his family, he could not see the result of his examination. In January, 1976 his result was published and he passed MA. He played an active role in 6 points mass movement of Bangladesh Chhatra League as a struggling ideologue organizer in 1966 and in the movement of 1969. On the night of 25 March 1971, he left home to participate in the liberation war. At the time of the liberation war, he served as the Lieutenant Colonel Osmani's ADC. Like other members of Bangabandhu's family, he had a simple life. He was cultural minded. He was a devoted organizer in stage drama and cultural program. In 1973 the Dhaka Theater was established. Sheikh Kamal is one of the founders of Dhaka Theater. As an actor, he contributed greatly to the drama of Dhaka University. Among the plays acted by Sheikh Kamal are 'Montri hobo', 'Shilpoti', 'ruler and nihito LMG', 'Nabnana', 'Danob', 'Keu kisu bolte pare na', 'Cartoon', 'Somrat', 'Jaundice' 'Bibidho balloon', 'Rupantor' and 'Bidai monalisa'. She loved playing setar and organ. He sang very melodiously. While studying at BAF Shaheen College, he participated in the Intercollegiate Setar Competition and stood first and in the competition of singing a song he stood second. He formed an industrial group named Spondon. Firoz Sai, Ferdous Wahid and many others were members of the Spondon group, formed by the hand of Sheikh Kamal and they sang over there. Spondon collected music from the various shrines and folk music from the village and developed a relationship with the culture and folk literature in the modern mind and tried to bridge.
Sitting on the roof in front of this room on third floor, he occasionally used to practise music. From his childhood, he was fond of sports. In 1972, he established Abahoni Kria Chokro. Basketball, cricket, football and hockey were his favorite games. In 1974, Sheikh Kamal's Abahoni Kria Chokro created a unique history by becoming the champion in football, cricket and hockey competition. On 14 July 1975, he was married to Sultana Khuki, a renowned sportsman of the University of Dhaka, the university's famous student. After marriage on 14th July, she started living in this room on three floors with wife Sultana Khuki. When the assassins attacked on August 15, 1975, Sheikh Kamal made the first resistance against the killers. The murderers killed Sheikh Kamal in front of the lower floor of the office room and his wife Sultana Kamal Khuki was killed in the bedroom of Bangabandhu with the other members of the family. During the massacre on August 15, 1975, valuable things of this room were looted. At that time, various things were kept sporadically. From 1975 to 1981, this house was sealed by the military authority. Due to long-time seal the majority of the items were destroyed in dust and insects. is still seen on the, the glasses, plates and spoons kept beside the table next to the bed used on the night of 15th, of August 1971 are still being displayed. Inside the south-west corner, the wife of the newlywed, Sultana Kamal Khuki’s dressing table and her cosmetic materials are kept. Sheikh Kamal's setar, keyboard, sound box, song recorder, medal of his sport, certificate and shield are still being displayed today. There is a bullet sign in the southern window of this room.
