Bangabandhu in the international Sphere (1974)

The early part of the year 1974 can be remembered for its importance to establish Bangladesh as an important country in the Muslim world as well as for establishing a good connection with the Middle East. On 23rd February 1974 Bangabandhu represented Bangladesh in the OIC Council Conference at Lahore as the largest Islamic community. This was indeed an historical event. As par the condition laid by Bangabandhu, Pakistan recognized Bangladesh as a sovereign country on 22nd February on the eve of this Conference. Participation in the OIC opened up doors for co-operation with other Muslim countries. Relationship with the Middle East countries enhanced the political identity of Bangladesh as well as eased international recognition of Bangladesh.
